What the book intends to do, it accomplishes: it provides a well-integrated view of the field of bioenergetics as seen by the author for whom the view serves as a working hypothesis. In that sense, it is a subjective account but by no means is the reader left in doubt of alternatives at any point where alternative views may be valid. This, of course, is proper in a field that is obviously in a very dynamic stage of its development and in which much is of necessity tentative even if the final outlines are beginning to take shape.
